here's the skinny: Visited Teichert Ponds from 7-11 AM on SUN/09-23-01 and
refound NOPA at 10:10 AM foraging in canopy of large cottonwood stand in NE
corner of property in association with BUSH/WIWA mixed feeding flock.  Most
of the suite of diagnostic plumage characters was visible during a series of
fleeting looks, especially the now "PED XING"-magnitude wing-bars.  Five
other warbler species were seen, including a first-fall-sighting AUWA and 2
gray-headed-race OCWA.  YEWA and WIWA were present, MCWA and NAWA were not,
and COYE was new.  Five sparrow species were seen, including 2 juvenile BRSP
and both first fall and winter adult CHSP.  SOSP was present, LASP was not,
and FOSP/LISP/WCSP were new.  ANHU was the only hummingbird species still in
evidence, and a WWPE and 2 WIFL lingered. An admittedly banal bonus was many
close-up looks at juvenile-plumage CEWA.  WETA was the only other migrant
observed in a total count of 42 species for the morning.
