Dear Delriece...
I am asking this with the highest respect for your religion: It seems
like if you distilled the Craft down to its basic essence, you would
have our psychic abilities and our Goddess/God given ability to create
our own reality. So my question is, why do you need the rituals and the
tools and not just create your reality by projecting your thoughts?
(Not that the rituals are not beautiful and moving in their own right.)
Thank you so much for your site and time.
Blessed Be,

Dear Wrenaeth,
Well, I might bicker with you about your
distillation since I think influencing reality is less
important than the connection with deity and our
philosophy... but with that aside I will tell you why
ritual is important to me.
What you have to do is to get into the actual
workings of Magick and why and how it does the things
it does. Magick is the focus of will to influence
one's life. The spell can be thought of as asking the
Gods and Goddesses to do what we will by presenting to
them our emotions. This is a crude simplification but
perhaps you get the idea. Emotions are tricky things
that are controlled by the subconscious, and our
subconscious responds better to symbols and pictures
than to a more analytical approach. Some Traditions
believe that the Higher Self, the part of you that
works Magick and is connected to deity, can only
understand things of a symbolic nature. This is
where ritual comes in. Ritual is a collection of
symbols that speaks to the subconscious or Higher Self.
In analogy, I would say that when you understand
a good book you understand it with your mind. But you
can't absorb what is in the book simply by touching it
or wishing to understand it, you must go through the process of reading with your physical body so that your mind can
process the information.
Light!
Delriece
