Dear Delriece...
It seems that most witches change their name to something like
SilverFox or FaeireChild. I understand the idea of using this name in a private
ritual, but it seems that more and more people use it for regular life.
I like my name and I have no desire to go by anything else (unless I am
at a dance club). Do you belive witches have to choose a new names for
rituals? What about daily life?
Thanks,
Jennifer in Chicago IL

Dear Jennifer,
The reasons people choose magickal names for themselves are many. For some it is simply to put them in the frame of mind needed for ritual, for some it is tradition, and for many it can be a connection to the Gods and Goddesses and their name is never shared because it is believed to be linked to their own power. In many traditions it is not required to choose a magickal name, in fact, some Druidic groups frown on this practice! If you do not feel comfortable giving yourself such a name, you do not have to have one. And I do not yet know of any tradition which requires its use in everyday life.
Light!
Delriece
