Dear Delriece...

I have noticed from several of your posts here and on beliefnet, that you are fairly open to all paths of the Pagan faiths. I have (over the last 6 years or so) come to the conclusion that the only way we can put Paganism into the more mainstream view and acceptance, is to promote Pagan unity. Do you think that this can ever be achieved with the attitudes among the various trads? Don't they realize that they all practice the same basic concepts? There have been a couple of groups started to promote unity between the Pagan trads, but they always seem to degrade into 'coffee clatches'. Any ideas on how to get something started and keep it going?

I have been a practicing Alexandrian for nearly 23 years (seems like I would get it right eventually, huh?) and I definitely see a need to organize the Pagan communities in much the same way the bible trads have organized under Christianity.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Dear Innerpoint,

Perhaps I am jaded, but I think there shall always be some division between Pagan groups. Human beings by nature find ways to exclude others when they don't wish to be counted among their kind! And although I have founded a non-denominational group, I'm sure it could also be described as a 'coffee clatch'! But I have also seen some remarkable groups pull together rituals that have drawn Pagans from many traditions.

Certainly it will take more than one determined person to pull off the idea of Pagan Unity. But I've noticed that the face of Unity shines most during the holidays. Perhaps more effort should be made to organize Pagan events, but the eventual change will need to come from the general feelings that different Trads have towards one another. Elders in the communities may begin a snowball effect with their own opinion, and Pagans that have gone through years of training may be angered at those who feel they need no initiation to be called a Witch. Long story short is that this is going to take time and a change from within. Thanks for your topic.

Light!
Delriece
