This is truly one of the hardest tasks a friend can perform, so good luck to you. The first step is probably something you've already done. Apologise. Do so sincerely and don't make excuses! If the person won't listen, write a letter. Promise that you will never do it again and explain why you will never do it again. Show that you are trustworthy by being honest and true to all of your other friends as well. If you've had a bad background it's time for a life change. Don't push for trust right away. Just try to make them feel good when they are around you. Earning their trust, if possible, will take time and effort.
