Dear Delriece...

I am a nineteen year-old first year university student. I am haveing trouble with almost every aspect of my life. I also have a feeling that this problem branches from within me. I have lost my centre. My grades are terrible. I don't seem to be motivated to do anything. I feel like I'm up against this big wall, and I'm totally helpless against it. I suppose what I need is a source of power that I have lost who knows when. I know that such problems must be solved by the person him/herself, but I would really appreciate any words of wisdom from you. Thank you...

Forever grateful,
Kevin in Toronto Canada

Dear Kevin,

What you are feeling is normal, but if it is affecting your studies, you should consider regular counseling to help you find ways to cope. It is true that you can find power within yourself. An inspirational quote from Doreen Valiente reads, "if that which you seek, you find not within yourself, you will never find it without." This means that you do have the power to solve your problems, but that doesn't necessarily mean that you should rule out help from the outside. Get more involved with your own life and with organizations on your campus. Search for things that ignite your passion for knowledge!

Light!
Delriece
